Korean sculptor and installation artist Do Ho Suh created this awesome installation, entitled Floor, that might not look like much until you get good and close to it. Glass plates rest on thousands of multicolored miniature plastic figures who are crowded together with their heads and arms turned skyward. Together, they support the weight of the individual visitor who steps onto the floor.
Currently showing at Lehmann Maupin’s pop-up gallery at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI) until February 11th, Floor is a wonderfully thought-provoking installation.

Educated in Australia but currently based in Japan, artist Sean Edward Whelan creates figurative pencil drawings based around architecture. Culling inspiration from the shrines and temples of Japan as well as Edo period wood block prints, the drawings feature kinetic figures erected from these ancient structures of safekeeping and worship. Engaged in various stances, the cities housed within their forms remain stable, illuminating the longevity of the original structures. View more images below.

DECEMBER 1: ROSA PARKS REFUSES TO GIVE UP SEAT, 1955
On this day in 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white passenger, leading to her arrest and sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
For many, this day became a symbolic start for the civil rights movement.
American Experience’s acclaimed “Eyes on The Prize” series covered all the major events of the civil rights movement.On the accompanying site, read the national press during the boycott and browse through photos of Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and even ordinary citizens who participated in this historic campaign for equality.
